A typographically precise, flash-based web site for
Cravath, Swaine, & Moore LLP. Every word of content
in the site is read dynamically from an XML feed,
and animated programmatically. Two distinct
computational typography programs were implemented
to accomplish this. The first—a precompiler
system, uses font metrics to compute layouts for
each screen of text. It then encodes metrics info
paired with content in the form of custom
Actionscript. The second piece is an application
shell that instatiates animatable text chunks from
this custom Actionscript, wrapping them in bread
crumbs-like user interface. The system also features
customisable kerning, and inserts ligatures where
possible.
