A design sketch for a political race viewer, tailored for the race for the Democratic presidential nomination, 2003. Prototype not implemented.

Center: a leaderboard displays the rankings of candidates at the selected moment in time; a news headline is also presented, for context.
Left: colored lines represent leaderboard rankings over time; this data comes from the Iowa Electronic Markets, a real money betting market for political races.
Interaction: the timeline can be “scrubbed,” by dragging the leaderboard horizontally — this allows one to see news headlines for any past date on the timeline.
Right: upcoming events, particularly the Democratic primaries, are plotted on the timeline, creating suspense.
